Tips for the perfect lips

From treating chapped lips to the best lip balms, we tell you how to keep your lips kissable.

I can't believe how much attention the lips are getting these days. And, I must say, not always in a good way. But should we go to great lengths to get beautiful, soft and luscious-looking lips? I do not think so. Let's take a look at some top tips for beautiful lips that we can all follow to protect and show off the perfect looking lips.

I was amazed when I first realized how much the lips age. Do not you believe me? Look in the mirror. You may notice fine lines and wrinkles running in all different directions. And I'm not talking about those fine lines and wrinkles around the lips, I'm talking about the ones on the lips. When we were young we didn't have those wrinkles and lips were looking healthy. They were probably full, and looking quite youthful. What the hell happened?

"When they are exposed to moisture, they absorb water and fill up. When they dry out, they tend to shrink" And because they are always exposed, think of the sun, temperature, cold and hot drinks, or maybe if you play a wind instrument, in short your lips are prone to dehydration, especially during the cold, windy winter months.The skin on the lips is also different from the skin elsewhere on the body: it is thinner and has no oil glands (oil acts as a barrier to the skin and helps protect it) from weather elements, for example.

With a little loving care, your lips can be perfect in no time. Just follow these steps;

Take a bottle of water with you everywhere. Drinking enough water keeps the body, skin and lips hydrated.

Licking your lips, a tasty habit. Licking your lips damages the protective barrier, which can dry out the lips. (Saliva contains digestive enzymes that can break down this barrier.) Use lip balm such as The Lip Balm regularly.

Protect, protect, protect. Lips are prone to sunburn because they do not contain melanin, the pigment that protects the skin from the sun. Apply a layer of sun protection product daily.

And if dryness is really an issue, you might want to buy a humidifier. Even the little bedside humidifiers are great at replacing moisture in otherwise dry indoor air. This is great for your lips and your skin.
